Dear Judicial Colleagues, Court Unit Executives,
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the 2015 Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. This year's Conference will be held July 13-15 at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina in downtown San Diego.
Members of the Bar and Invited Guests,
The Conference will be one day shorter than usual but will include a full schedule of programs and meetings. The Conference Executive Committee, led by Conference Chair Circuit Judge Jay S. Bybee of Las Vegas and Program Chair Bankruptcy Judge Margaret M. Mann of San Diego, is preparing an outstanding program on topics important to the administration of justice in our Circuit, including: improving jury trials in the 21st Century, improving our handling of mentally ill litigants, enhancing our cybersecurity, and addressing human trafficking crimes. The Conference will also feature breakout sessions with special interest topics, and we will hold our usual business and committee meetings. We are especially delighted that Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy will join us again this year.
As you know, the Conference is also an excellent opportunity for judges and lawyers to exchange ideas for the improvement of our judicial system, and for all of us to catch up with colleagues. Some of our most successful initiatives have resulted not only from the panel presentations, but from these informal discussions.
Start making your plans now. The deadline for hotel reservations is at midnight on Monday, June 8. You can reserve your hotel room and register for the Conference online using the links to the right. A summary of the Conference schedule and other information about hotel accommodations and air and ground transportation is included to assist you in making your travel plans. Please keep in mind that the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina has advised that because of a major convention that concludes on Sunday, July 12, we will not be able to check into our rooms before 5:00 p.m. Hotel and Conference staff are collaborating to make check-in and any wait for your room easy and pleasant for you. I look forward to seeing you in San Diego.
