Welcome Luncheon & Book Review for Spouses & Guests
Enjoy catching up with friends and meet new people attending their first Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. You are encouraged to participate in a book review discussion right after the Welcome Lunch. Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, is this year's selection. The story is about Louie Zamperini—a track and field star of the 1930's—who participated in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. He served in the U.S. Air Force in WWII, was shot down and adrift in the Pacific for over a month, before he was captured and held as a POW by the Japanese. The collapse of Louie's life and his slow path to reclaiming his life and sense of purpose is truly inspiring. You may enjoy the discussion even if you don't read the book!
