New Bankruptcy Judge Takes Oath in Oakland

M. Elaine Hammond receives the oath of office from Chief Bankruptcy Judge Alan Jaroslovsky of the Northern District of California during a ceremony held February 2 at the federal courthouse in Oakland.  Judge Hammond fills a vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Edward M. Jellen, who stepped down January 31.  Judge Hammond clerked for Judge Jellen from 1998 to 2000, and the ceremony was held in his former courtroom.  Prior to coming onto the bench, Ms. Hammond had been a partner at the law firm of Friedman Dumas & Springwater LLP in San Francisco.
