Visitors to the James R. Browning United States Courthouse in San Francisco will find a new exhibit highlighting the illustrious career of the building's namesake. The Honorable James R. Browning, the late chief judge emeritus of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, was the longest serving federal appellate judge in the nation's history. The four-panel exhibit follows his progress from law school in his native Montana, to Washington, D.C., where he served as clerk of the U.S. Supreme Court and held the Bible during the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy, to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco as a Kennedy appointee. The exhibit was developed by court staff using historical photos and documents. It's on display in the Attorney Lounge, located just inside the main entrance to the courthouse.
